You Know What To Do

Often when making a painting it reaches a point I call the awkward middle. It feels stale, I don’t know where to go with it. I accept this as a natural part of my process. In this case, I couldn’t find any part I liked. I was finished with some other paintings and I had some leftover paint on my palette. Rather than throw it away, I decided to use it up on this one. It didn’t really matter what i painted. I thought I’d be covering it mostly up anyway. So I just started painting, I let my hand go without thinking and all of a sudden I realized I had a painting! It appeared before me as a whole finished thing. Like magic.
